About the sculptor: Monkith's  passion for art began as he was growing up in Bagdad. However, in 1978, he escaped Iraq, and arived in Syria, and so began many years of wandering from one country to the next. In 1993, after years without a valid passport or national identity, he became a dutch citizen.

About the autor: Rebecca Joubin received her Ph. D. in Middle Eastern Literature from Columbia University, New York, during the Spring of 2004. Her short stories and articles in Arabic and English have been published in al-Kifa-a-Ambi, al-Made, The International journal of Middel Eastern Studies, The Arab Studies Journal and The Cairo Times.
