De Vlaamse schilder en graficus Jozef Van Ruyssevelt (1941 – 1985) was het om ‘het gloeien van kleuren’ en ‘het wonder van het licht’ te doen. Om dat vast te leggen had hij meestal genoeg aan de kamers van zijn eigen huis, waar zacht daglicht over wanden en meubels streek en bloemen, fruit en stof en gloeiden in het licht of de schaduw. Uit zijn werk spreekt een aanstekelijke liefde en aandacht voor alledaagse situaties en spullen.
In dit boek is voor het eerst zijn volledige grafische oeuvre bijeengebracht, dat in de afgelopen jaren voor een groot deel is verworven door het Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam.
Van Ruyssevelt, bij leven grafiekdocent aan de Koninklijke Academie in Antwerpen, was een meesterlijke etser. In arceringen en drukinkt wist hij binnenskamerse schemering op te roepen, tegenlicht in een stilleven voor het raam en reflecties in glas of gelakt hout. De etsen zijn altijd figuratief en suggestief tegelijk: precieze vormen en stofuitdrukking zijn ondergeschikt aan het grote geheel van sfeer en compositie. Hoeveel Van Ruyssevelt ook dichtarceerde, hij liet vooral van alles open.

Along the Amsterdam Canals – Leonoor van Oosterzee & Bert Gerlagh

From the early seventeenth century on, the beauty of Amsterdam and its canal district in particular has inspired many generations of artists. Throughout the centuries, artists such as Roelant Saverij, Gerrit Adriaensz. Berckheyde, Jan de Beijer, Gerrit Lamberts and many others captured the development and changes in the canal district in their work. Their drawings show how the Amsterdam canal district would evolve over four centuries, to become a world-renowned monument, leading to its being declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2010. Along the Amsterdam Canals offers a representative selection from the splendid collection of drawings of the Royal Dutch Historical Society, which viewed either individually or together provide a beautiful illustration of how the Amsterdam canal district would develop over the years, while also depicting the development of the genre of the (Amsterdam) city view. Ranging from topographically correct recordings to atmospheric artistic impressions, there is one feature they unmistakeably share: love of Amsterdam’s ‘photogenic’ architecture.

Een rijke traditie – twee eeuwen Nederlandse prentkunst uit privébezit

Deze publicatie is verschenen naar aanleiding van de gelijknamige tentoonstelling in Museum Het Rembrandthuis te Amsterdam (1 oktober 2015-24 januari 2016). Lucas van Leijden, Hieronymus Bosch, Pieter Bruegel de Oude, Hendrick Goltzius, Rembrandt, Adriaen van Ostade, Paulus Potter: beroemde kunstenaars die allemaal een bijdrage leverden aan de twee eeuwen briljante prentproductie van de Zuidelijke en Noordelijke Nederlanden. Museum Het Rembrandthuis presenteert een keuze uit drie vooraanstaande particuliere collecties die een schitterend overzicht geeft van deze rijke traditie.

Wendelien Schönfeld: Houtsneden / Woodcuts – Gijsbert van der Wal

Wendelien Schönfeld (1950) behoort tot de interessantste Nederlandse grafici van dit moment. Ze heeft zich toegelegd op het technisch uiterst gecompliceerde medium van de kleurenhoutsnede. Schönfelds ongewone prenten van mensen, dieren, landschappen en interieurs hebben niet de stijfheid die houtsneden vaak aankleeft. Ze tekent met een guts in het hout als met een potlood op papier, en ze mengt de verschillende drukgangen (iedere kleur in een houtsnede wordt van een apart houtblok gedrukt) zoals een schilder zijn verf mengt.
In dit boek is een ruime keuze uit Schönfelds kleurenhoutsneden uit de afgelopen vijfentwintig jaar afgebeeld, gelardeerd met voorschetsen en verwant werk in andere media. Kunstjournalist Gijsbert van der Wal schreef er een inleiding bij op basis van interviews met de kunstenaar.

A wide selection of Schönfeld’s colour woodcuts from the past quarter century has been brought together in this volume, accompanied by studies and related work in other media.
